Politically Incorrect Costumes That Incorporate D-Cards

Disclaimer: This post is far more politically incorrect than usual. It was written with the intention to be creative and funny, but some of the ideas presented in this post could be seen as insensitive. Please know that I hold my fellow members of the disabled community in high esteem and have much respect for them all as individuals. Any hurt feelings or damaged pride was purely accidental. Read on if you dare.

Halloween is in 18 days (and counting!), so the pressure is on to find a costume. For the disabled community, I offer this piece of advice: don’t work around your disability, work with it instead. Use whatever equipment you utilize in your daily life and incorporate it into your character for the night. It’ll take some creativity and a bit of humor to pull off, but it’ll be fun and memorable.  Allow me to explain

The (Super)Power of Disabilities

For this week’s blog post, I want to talk about superheroes. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not using a metaphor.  I’m talking about the costume-wearing, superpower-using, comic book kind. Now, at first glance, these men and women (lest Wonder Woman, She-Ra, and the Power Puff Girls — among others — be forgotten) are the antithesis of life with a disability, but what if they’re actually perfect metaphors for the disabled population?
