Last week, I spoke with blogger / journalist Melissa Blake. Since Melissa’s blog, So about what I said…, focuses on the theme of dating with a disability, I got to thinking about the topic myself. Then I saw this postcard on PostSecret and knew that I had to address the issue.

In any relationship, there’s a give and take. There are quirks to adapt to and issues to compensate for on both sides, whether one partner has a handicap or not. I’d hate to think that a physical disability is an automatic harbinger of a life devoid of romance. (Nine cats, a collection of crocheted pillows, and an endless supply of candy bars can only hold the loneliness at bay for so long.)
Sure, dating someone who’s disabled has an added set of complications, but I think it might have some extra bonuses, too. Here are a few potential pluses that I came up with.
