Think traveling with a physical disability is impossible? Think it means limited options of where to go?
Think again.
Recently, an article in the Chicago Tribune focused on a program that allowed physically disabled teenagers to travel to Israel. There really is no shortage of travel options for would-be globe trotters with impairments.
With headquarters in Manhattan, The Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality (SATH) has been facilitating excursions for impaired travelers for almost 35 years, because nothing — not even Delta Airlines — should kill your travel bug. After all, according to Jani Nayar, the Executive Coordinator of SATH for the past decade, people with disabilities are the biggest minority in the United States. SATH’s statistics say there are 54 million people with handicaps—counting both physical and mental impairments—and of those, 27 million are hearing impaired, 16 million are visually impaired, 8 million have mobility impairments.
