Famous Stutterers (Who Weren’t the King of England)

Ok, so The King’s Speech is kind of a big deal for a whole bunch of reasons. The story is great, the acting is fantastic (as if I needed another reason to love Colin Firth), and the film is about so much more than a stutter. Yet, much has been made of how The King’s Speech brings light to the issue of stuttering (or stammering, as it’s known across the pond). Certainly, the movie gives the speech problem a better portrayal than films like Billy Madison (“T-t-t-today, Junior!”). Since the 74th anniversary of King George VI’s coronation is tomorrow, I’d like to mention other noteworthy individuals who overcame speech impediments.
