Viewing Disability Differently

Beauty and Blindness

Meet Rosary Romano.

Romano teaches at Helen Keller Services for the Blind, an institution that helps people of every age who are blind or have visual impairments to gain more independence. She is visually impaired, herself, but has some surprisingly strong opinions about the idea of beauty.  Check out the audio slideshow I helped create with Natalia Angulo, where the confident, friendly, and funny Romano — an undeniably beautiful person — explains what beauty means to her.

Dear Carly, Your thoughts on all these articles are so insightful and at times humorous. You write beautifully. I’m proud to be on your blog

  2. Carly,

Your story gives a very positive perspective on someone living with a disability. It’s great that you are choosing to tell us about people who are living happy lives despite the challenges they have to deal with.

  5. Great photos, they really serve to illustrate your points well. It just goes to show that fashion is in the eye of the beholder. Whilst I liked certain aspects on the design, some I would not wear.
